HBO Series Films At SUNY New Paltz

The State University of New York at New Paltz was turned into a film set for a day. The HBO series Girls chose the campus as a setting to mimic a different university.

It all happened so quickly. Around the beginning of July, SUNY New Paltz officials got the call that Half A Yogurt Productions was interested in filming some scenes for the HBO series Girls. Richard Winters is community and government relations associate for SUNY New Paltz.

The ongoing danger of radiation from a 2011 nuclear accident in Japan is the topic of a discussion Wednesday evening at SUNY New Paltz in Ulster County.

Robert A.F. Thurman is the Jey Tsong Khapa Professor of Indo-Tibetan Buddhist Studies in the Department of Religion at Columbia University, President of the Tibet House U.S., a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and promotion of Tibetan civilization, and President of the American Institute of Buddhist Studies, a non-profit affiliated with the Center for Buddhist Studies at Columbia University and dedicated to the publication of translations of important texts from the Tibetan Tengyur.

He will present a lecture entitled "Tibetan Culture as World Treasure: What It Is, How It Came to Be, What Are Its Gifts Today" at the State University of New York at New Paltz on November 4th . The lecture is presented jointly by the Dorsky and SUNY New Paltz's Distinguished Speaker Series, in conjunction with The Dorsky exhibition, Anonymous: Contemporary Tibetan Art.

Robert Thurman’s latest book is Love Your Enemies: How to Break the Anger Habit & Be a Whole Lot Happier, co-authored by Sharon Salzberg.

    The Samuel Dorsky Museum of Art at the State University of New York, New Paltz currently presents Anonymous, an exhibition of contemporary Tibetan art featuring over 50 works of painting, sculpture, installation, and video art by 27 artists living in Tibet and in diaspora. The show will be open through December 15th.

The exhibition was curated by Rachel Perera Weingeist, Senior Advisor to the Shelley & Donald Rubin Foundation, the exhibition is largely drawn from the Rubins’ private collection. Rachel joins us now to tell us more.

SUNY New Paltz Opens Sustainability Office

One of the State University of New York campuses has a new Office of Campus Sustainability. Already, the college is one of eight SUNY campuses listed in the Princeton Review’s 2013 Guide to Green Colleges.

The State University of New York at New Paltz has hired a full-time sustainability coordinator, who begins May 1, and a part-time energy coordinator. The new office and its hires come in support of the SUNY New Paltz president’s recent submission of the Campus Sustainability Plan to the American College and University Presidents’ Climate Commitment.
