Grossman Calls For Ban On Outside Spending In Race For Governor

Massachusetts State Treasurer Steven Grossman, who is one of five Democrats currently running for Governor, issued a challenge to his rivals this week.  He called on them to sign the so-called “People’s Pledge.”  This ban on third-party campaign advertising was popularized in the 2012 race for U.S. Senate between Scott Brown and Elizabeth Warren.    WAMC”s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill spoke with Grossman about this and other issues.

Kayyem Takes Step Toward Bid For Mass. Governor

Juliette Kayyem, a former state and national homeland security adviser, has taken a key step toward a potential run for Massachusetts governor.

Kayyem, a Democrat, has formed a campaign committee and filed a statement of organization on Tuesday with the state office of Campaign and Political Finance.

A spokeswoman said a further statement would be released today.

Construction Begins To Replace Tornado Damaged School

Springfield, Massachusetts continues to rebuild from the tornado that caused extensive damage to the city 25 months ago.  A groundbreaking ceremony was held today to begin construction on a new elementary school to replace one that was rendered unusable by the tornado.

Massachusetts Treasurer To Boehner: Let's Debate Taxes

Massachusetts State Treasurer Steven Grossman has sent an invitation to the Speaker of the U.S. House Representatives, John Boehner, challenging the Republican to a debate over a bill that would require intern retailers to collect state sales taxes. Boehner has expressed reluctance about the bill, which Grossman, a Democrat, says would not only generate revenue, but level the playing field for brick-and-mortar retailers.
