UAlbany Connecting With Communities

The University at Albany has embarked on a program to strengthen its connections with the community.

UAlbany President Dr. Robert Jones "public engagement" initiative builds on a similar program that advanced the concept at the University of Minnesota, where Jones served most recently as Senior Vice President and spent a total of 33 years in academic and administrative leadership positions.

"Day After Day: The Diaristic Impulse" at the SUNY Albany University Art Museum - Audio Tour

  Day after day: The Diaristic Impulse is the exhibition currently on display at the University Art Museum at the State University of New York University at Albany. The show explores the obsessive desire to record day-to-day activities, document private worlds, or chart the passage of time.

Corinna Ripps Schaming is the Associate Director and Curator at the University Art Museum. Here she takes us on a tour of the show and speak about some of the work on display.

"Day After Day: The Diaristic Impulse" at the SUNY Albany University Art Museum

    The University Art Museum at the State University of New York University at Albany is currently showing Day After Day: The Diaristic Impulse. The exhibition explores the personal and immediate act of documenting day to day life – in ways that only the artistic mind could manage.

Janet Riker, Director of The University Art Museum, joins us to tell us more.

Also joining us – Ed Schwarzschild - associate professor at the University at Albany, SUNY, and a fellow at the New York State Writers Institute. A short story by Ed entitled “For the Record” is included the exhibition catalog. Tonight, Ed and fellow author Scott Hutchins will give a reading at the museum at 7pm.

Justice & Multiculturalism in the 21st Century at UAlbany

The UAlbany School of Criminal Justice is sponsoring "Justice & Multiculturalism in the 21st Century," a year-long project that will examine issues of justice and diversity through collaborations among scholars, students, and the community. The school's aim is to create opportunities for engagement with diverse populations across the University and throughout the Capital Region. Included in the project will be lectures, a film series, and panel discussions, culminating with a national symposium in the spring. Dr.

Obama to Visit Albany High-Tech Center with Cuomo

President Barack Obama is preparing to deliver a speech on the economy that will use the backdrop of a high-technology facility in Albany that grew out of a partnership with private enterprise and bipartisanship.

Beside him through much of Tuesday's visit will be Governor Andrew Cuomo. In his campaign in 2010, Cuomo made jobs and the economy part of his "new Democrat" theme. Cuomo has also shows a Democratic executive can work closely with Republicans, something the president has struggled with in Washington.

President Obama Will Visit Capital Region Tomorrow

The president will visit New York’s Capital Region on Tuesday, but his destination has shifted. WAMC’s Ian Pickus reports…

President Obama had been slated to visit the $4.6 billion GolbalFoundries chip plant in Malta when word of his stop first trickled out last week, but the Commander-in-Chief will now head to the University at Albany’s College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering instead.
