Protesters gathered in Albany Friday night calling for justice after Albany resident Donald “Dontay” Ivy died after being detained by police. Police had used a taser on Ivy. He died minutes later after being transported to Albany Medical Center.

Early Thursday morning, Donald “Dontay” Shaw Ivy died following an encounter with Albany police. Different narratives have unfolded regarding the interaction between officers and Ivy, who was Tased during the struggle. The death has led to a call for justice and a rally outside police headquarters tonight.

The Vermont Senate has passed a bill calling for enhanced police training on the use of electronic stun guns.

Vermont Attorney General William Sorrell says a state trooper was justified in using a stun gun against a Thetford man who died after he was shocked.

Sorrell says reviews by his office and the Orange County State's Attorney's office ruled that no criminal charges were warranted stemming from the June 12, 2012, death of 39-year-old Macadam Mason.
