Three environmental groups are suing New York State agencies and officials over the planned use of Clean Water Act funds for construction activities surrounding the replacement Tappan Zee Bridge.

Riverkeeper, Waterkeeper Alliance, and Environmental Advocates of New York Monday filed a lawsuit in State Supreme Court in Albany against New York State officials, seeking to ensure that federal Clean Water Act funds will not be used in building the new Tappan Zee Bridge or for future projects. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo's plan to use clean water funds to help pay for the new Tappan Zee Bridge has been approved by a key state board. However, a federal agency is reviewing the plan, and environmental groups are among those in opposition.

When President Obama visited Westchester Wednesday to spotlight the replacement Tappan Zee Bridge, he talked about how the project benefitted from an expedited review process. He also mentioned a large federal loan that came through. But some state and local lawmakers says there is still a big unknown: the toll price.

The investigation continues into a fatal boat crash in the Hudson River on Friday. The families of the victims say the investigation should focus on lighting, not alcohol. But state authorities say lighting was in compliance. In the meantime, family members went from planning a wedding to holding funerals.

TARRYTOWN – As work begins on a temporary work platform to be constructed in the Hudson River just north of the current Tappan Zee Bridge, the public will be able to monitor environmental impacts online.

Tappan Zee Construction, LLC is beginning daytime pile driving work to install a temporary foundation needed to support a trestle in the river on Thruway Authority property just north of the current bridge in Tarrytown. The trestle is a work platform that will support a crane for the construction of the easternmost 1,000 feet of the new bridge.
