The Ulster County comptroller is urging the county legislature to adopt a policy concerning the transfer of funds already appropriated for positions that remain unfilled. The policy recommendation, intended to increase transparency and accountability, comes with the release of a quarterly report. And some are taking issue with the report.

The Ulster County comptroller is warning that the lack of an information technology disaster recovery plan jeopardizes county records and the ability of the county to operate in the face of a major calamity. He says the current plan is outdated and a course of action is needed.

There’s a new system ready to be put in place in New York State to help identify local governments and school districts under financial strain. The idea is to flag financial problems before they spiral into a crisis.

The New York State Comptroller’s office has finalized plans to implement a statewide fiscal monitoring system to identify local governments and school districts under or nearing financial stress, by classifying their fiscal conditions.
