A health alert after a part-time postal worker in the Capital Region was recently diagnosed with pulmonary Tuberculosis. 

An assault on a U.S. Postal Service mail carrier last month in Springfield, Massachusetts has brought a call for harsh punishment to deter future attacks.

   Springfield City Councilor Bud Williams urged federal authorities to prosecute two city teenagers who are currently facing state criminal charges for beating the mail carrier.

   " This case needs the full thrust of the federal government to prosecute these people," said Williams. " Lets send a message that we stand with our postal workers."

Residents of one upstate New York town are taking action - against the U.S. Postal Service - which is facing a $10 billion deficit this year.

When postal officials told the Shandaken town board they were proposing cost-cutting service changes that included cutting back hours at local post offices, they were met with hostility.

Local members of Congress are pleased to see the U.S. Postal Service withdraw its plan to halt Saturday mail delivery. But the decision still leaves several unsolved issues.

Earlier this week the U.S. Postal service announced that it would delay implementation of a plan to halt Saturday mail service sought by Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe.

The announcement came after the Board of Governors met to discuss a piece of legislation included in the Continuing Resolution passed by Congress last month that requires six-day mail delivery.
