Westboro Church Plans Pickets at West Point, Vassar

Westboro Baptist Church members have two pickets planned for today in the Hudson Valley - one on each side of the Hudson River. The anti-gay Church established by Pastor Fred Phelps is known for its pickets of military funerals and liberal-arts colleges.

Vassar Repertory Dance Theatre's 31st Annual Gala at The Bardavon

    The Vassar Repertory Dance Theatre's annual gala performances at The Bardavon is in its 31st year. The events celebrate both brand new and classic works by a very talented company of dancers.

There will be two performances at The Bardavon this weekend, one at 8pm on Saturday and one at 3pm on Sunday.

As President Barack Obama was sworn in for a second term today, the nation celebrated the life of civil-rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  And January First marked the 150th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln’s signing of the Emancipation Proclamation, freeing hundreds of thousands of slaves.

Gloria Steinem co-founded Ms. Magazine in 1972. She was one of its editors for 15 years and continues to serve as a consulting editor for Ms., and played an integral part in the magazine’s move to be published by the Feminist Majority Foundation. In 1968 she helped found New York magazine, where she was a political columnist and wrote feature articles.
