NYS To Hold Algal Bloom Summits

Governor Andrew Cuomo on Wednesday announced the dates and locations of four summits supporting the state's effort to protect lakes and water bodies in upstate New York from harmful algal blooms. As WAMC’s Allison Dunne tells us, one summit will take place in the Hudson Valley.

Environmental group Riverkeeper has released a report on water quality in the Wallkill River that shows contamination levels throughout. The findings will be discussed Tuesday evening at the Wallkill River Summit at SUNY New Paltz. Meanwhile, Riverkeeper and another group have requested funding in New York’s budget for a state study of the Wallkill River.

New York state and local officials are co-sponsoring a forum Thursday evening on harmful algae blooms in the Walkill River. The event is aimed at heightening public awareness about a growing problem that spans the river in two counties.
