NY State Police: Stay off Hudson Valley highways

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. (AP) — The New York State Police troop that covers a four-county area east of the Hudson River is advising motorists to stay off local highways during the storm that's expected to drop up to 18 inches of snow in some areas along the Massachusetts and Connecticut borders.

Schools across New York close ahead of major storm

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — Most schools across upstate New York are closed or plan to send students home early and airports are cancelling flights ahead of a major storm that's expected to dump a foot or more of snow in some parts of the state.

Big Winter Storm Takes Aim at Northeast

BOSTON (AP) — Schools across New England have closed and thousands of flights have been scratched as the Northeast hunkers down for a storm poised to dump up to 2 feet of snow.

The snow is expected to start Friday morning, with the heaviest amounts falling at night and into Saturday. Wind gusts could reach 75 mph. Widespread power failures were feared, along with flooding in coastal areas still recovering from Superstorm Sandy in October.

Gov. Patrick Asks Drivers To Get Off Roads By Noon

Massachusetts is preparing for a blizzard Friday that forecasters say could bring more than two feet of snow to the state’s heaviest populated areas. 

Governor Deval Patrick instructed most state employees to work from home Friday and urged private employers to do the same.  He  urged all schools to close for the day. The Governor said no one should plan to travel in the state after noon.
