   New York state Democrats say their prime strategy to motivate voters this fall will be to paint Governor Andrew Cuomo’s republican opponent, as an ultra conservative who has a negative view about New York.  

Democratic candidate for Lieutenant Governor Kathy Hochul went on the attack against the Republican candidate for governor, Rob Astorino, saying the GOP opponent and his running mate are too conservative and his portrayal of the state as economically troubled and dysfunctional is too pessimistic.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has more than $30 million in his campaign fund, and a recent poll shows him with a 30-point-lead over his likely Republican opponent, Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino, but the Republican says if the past is any indication, he can win the gubernatorial race this year. Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino says his three school-aged children won't be participating in new testing standards as part of the Common Core exams starting this week. The Republican candidate for governor of New York released a video statement on his website Monday explaining he made the decision along with his wife Sheila, a special education teacher.

Common Core is being implemented in schools across the country, but it has been heavily criticized by many parents and educators.

Westchester County Executive Robert Astorino says he has yet to decide whether to challenge Gov. Andrew Cuomo, even as he criticized the governor's performance.

The Republican says he expects to make a decision on whether to run in the next 60 days. Astorino is considered by Republicans to be one of their best candidates to take on the popular Democratic governor this year.  Astorino visited Albany on Tuesday. He says he's been traveling the state and talking to donors, but is also considering the toll a campaign would take on his family.

Westchester’s re-elected county executive is touting his county’s bond ratings, which he says are the best of any county in New York State. Yet a county legislator says there is a troubling piece of information.

In New York, the Westchester County executive who was just re-elected to a second term says he plans to continue the fiscal agenda from his first term.

Republican Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino scored a decisive win over Democratic New Rochelle Mayor Noam Bramson, a win he attributes to cutting spending and keeping taxes low. He says expect more of the same in the second term.

He also says he plans to work with his new neighbor - New York City’s Democratic Mayor Elect Bill de Blasio.

Republicans say their party’s county executive wins in the Hudson Valley and elsewhere in New York State bode well for the 2014 governor’s race.

The New York Republican State Committee’s executive director Michael Lawler was celebrating in Westchester County Tuesday night with supporters of incumbent Republican County Executive Rob Astorino, who won re-election to a second term in a county where Democrats outnumber Republicans by about 2-to-1. In New York, Westchester County voters chose to keep their county executive in office another four years.

Incumbent Republican Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino thanked his roomful of supporters for his decisive win.

Democratic challenger Noam Bramson, who surprised even Astorino with how early he conceded the race, addressed his supporters around 10:30 Tuesday night.

As of early Wednesday morning, with 81 percent of districts reporting, Astorino led Bramson 55 percent to 45 percent, with about 76,000 votes to Bramson’s close to 62,000 votes.
