President Barack Obama stood on the banks of the Hudson River Wednesday, with the Tappan Zee Bridge as a backdrop. He was in Tarrytown to push a $302 billion transportation plan, and shine a light on a replacement bridge project already under way. 

The Republican candidate for governor of New York, Rob Astorino, claims an aid to Governor Andrew Cuomo made him sit in the back during President Obama’s visit to the Tappan Zee Bridge Wednesday, a charge Cuomo’s spokesman denies.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has more than $30 million in his campaign fund, and a recent poll shows him with a 30-point-lead over his likely Republican opponent, Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino, but the Republican says if the past is any indication, he can win the gubernatorial race this year. On WAMC’s Capitol Connection program this week, Astorino says he faced similar long odds when he won the county executive race in the heavily Democratic Westchester County.
