Dr. Dennis Metzger - Albany Medical College

Albany Medical College recently received a $10.2 million grant from the National Institutes of Health for research on a vaccine to prevent a dangerous and somewhat mysterious disease called tularemia, also known as “rabbit fever.” The disease is carried by rodents, and can be transmitted to humans, but those cases are rare. The real concern is the use of tularemia as a biological weapon. Dr. Dennis Metzger is a professor at Albany Medical College, and the director of the Center for Immunology and Microbial Disease. Dr. Metzger, who is working on the vaccine, spoke today to WAMC’s Brian Shields news about tularemia.
