City Treasurer Kathy Sheehan is now poised to become the first woman to ascend to the post of Mayor of Albany - Sheehan took the Democratic primary by a substantial margin tuesday night over former Councilman Corey Ellis.
Sheehan is now the presumptive winner of the November general election, due to Albany's heavy Democratic enrollment. A win in the fall would make her the first new mayor after twenty years of Jerry Jennings and the first female mayor in Albany's history. Sheehan promised change during her campaign, and hinted there may be many changes ahead
Sheehan gave both her own and Corey Ellis' campaigns high marks - in November she will face Republican Jesse Calhoun, Conservative Joe Sullivan and a few minor party candidates.
