Angela Ledford On St. Rose's 'No Confidence' Vote

On Wednesday, College of St. Rose faculty voted "no confidence" in President Carolyn Stefanco. The vote at the Albany college was 120-35 with three abstentions according to political science professor Angela Ledford, who is leader of the Faculty Association of St. Rose, FASTR, and Vice President of American Association of University Professors. Ledford spoke with WAMC just after the vote.

The college responded in a statement from Stefanco:

"Last fall, as The College of Saint Rose confronted extremely difficult choices about its future, the slim majority of faculty who voted decided to walk away from the discussions. In doing so, they chose to deprive Saint Rose and their colleagues of their considerable wisdom and guidance at a pivotal time in the history of Saint Rose.

Today, some of those same colleagues issued a vote of 'no confidence' in me.

While some faculty members embrace and support constructive change at Saint Rose, others resist it. Regardless of our personal feelings, we share a solemn responsibility to make the changes necessary to meet the changing needs of our students.

I will proudly continue to lead Saint Rose, working alongside our trustees, staff, administration and those members of the faculty who support the efforts to improve our financial standing, increase our enrollment and chart a course for a strong future."
