Three-term Rep. Richard Hanna told the Syracuse Post Standard he will leave Congress at the end of his term that concludes at the end of 2016.
The 64-year-old Republican said he will be stepping down to spend more time with his wife and two young children.
Utica Assemlyman Anthony Brindisi, a Democrat, thanked Hanna for his service, saying Hanna "did not follow the party line, and his willingness to work across the aisle to get things done is something we need more of in Washington."
Hanna represents New York's 22nd district. He has served in Congress since 2011.
