A gay rights group banned from Boston’s St Patrick’s Parade may march in Holyoke.
Holyoke Mayor Alex Morse extended an invitation to MassEquality to join Holyoke’s St Patrick’s Parade and a spokesman for the group said it is under consideration. The Holyoke High School Gay Straight Alliance, which was founded by Morse, has lined up a sponsor to get a spot in the parade.
" So it will be the first time we've had an L.G.B.T. group in the parade. I think it is a great moment of pride for the city of Holyoke given that we have the second largest St Patrick's parade in the country."
It appeared a deal had been struck to allow the first gay activist group to participate in Boston’s St. Patrick’s Parade, but MassEquality rejected a condition that marchers could not openly reference their sexual orientation. Boston’s parade is scheduled for Sunday March 16. Holyoke’s parade is March 23.
