Cheshire, Massachusetts remains in a state of emergency after last week’s heavy rains caused nearly $1 million in road damage.
Portions of Route 116 and Windsor Road have been closed for nearly a week. Carole Francesconi serves on the town’s Select Board.
“What we think happened on Route 116 and Windsor too, is that we got four inches of rain in such a short period of time that the water blew out the culverts in both places,” Francesconi said. “That’s what caused the road to collapse.”
Francesconi says state and town workers hope to have both roads open by the Fourth of July. The town of Lenox estimates it has $350,000 in road damage, while Richmond’s administrator says the storm caused $70,000 worth. Those towns also declared states of emergency.
