A Vermont Senate Committee is acknowledging that climate change is caused by people and lawmakers are renewing the state's commitment to reducing carbon emissions.
On Friday, the Senate Committee on Natural Resources and Energy passed the resolution by a vote of 4-1.
The full senate is expected to debate the measure.
Committee Chairman Christopher Bray says the resolution might seem ceremonial, but he thinks it's important "that we pause and sometimes restate our perception of the problem and our commitment to action."
The Burlington Free Press reports the measure was proposed by Sen. Brian Campion who said he thought it was important for Vermont to take a stance on the problem after the U.S. Senate declined to acknowledge that human activities are a primary cause.
