Thousands To Descend On Stockbridge For Divine Mercy Sunday

Some 20,000 people are expected to flock to Stockbridge, Massachusetts this weekend for an annual religious celebration.Divine Mercy Sunday is an international Catholic feast held on the Sunday after Easter. Thousands of people are expected to gather at Eden Hill in Stockbridge to visit the National Shrine of The Divine Mercy.

The Marian Fathers of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary purchased the 350 acres in 1943. After 10 years of construction the shrine itself was finished in 1960 complete with 36 stained glass windows. In 1996 it was given the title of National Shrine of the Divine Mercy.  

Cardinal Timothy Dolan, Archbishop of New York, highlights the weekend event with a liturgy Sunday at 1 p.m.
