Early voting will be introduced in Massachusetts beginning with the 2016 election, and activists are already concerned about how it will be administered.
A collection of consumer groups and government watchdogs called the Massachusetts Election Modernization Coalition is calling on communities to provide at least one early voting site for every 35,000 people.
Janet Domenitz, executive director of MassPIRG, said early voting must be administered in an equitable manner.
"There is not a one-size-fits-all for early voting," said Domenitz.
The state law allows people to vote up to 11 days before Election Day, but leaves it up to communities to decide how many voting sites to open and for what hours.
The activists want early voting available on nights and weekends.
