The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has published the thousands of public comments it received on its second five-year review of the Hudson River Superfund project.
In June 2017, the EPA released an update on the project that removed 2.75 million cubic yards of contaminated sediment from the Hudson River. Dredging ceased in October 2015.
At the time, EPA said results of General Electric’s mandated cleanup work to remove toxic PCBS were “generally consistent” with the agency's expectations.
In a public comment period that closed September 1st, 2017, EPA received more than 2,000 comments from individuals and groups. It will now review the comments.
Critics including Governor Andrew Cuomo and State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman have asked EPA to remain on the river to address polluted sites. Cuomo says New York will sue if EPA deems the cleanup complete.
