With Halloween a few days away Massachusetts eye doctors are warning about the use of cosmetic contact lenses.
Contact lenses are not one-size-fits-all. Putting non-prescription colored lenses in the eyes can lead to a lack of oxygen according to Dr. Jeffrey Gallo, an ophthalmologist and president of the Massachusetts Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons.
It is a violation of federal law to sell non-FDA approved contact lenses, but that often does not deter vendors who set up shops at temporary locations to sell Halloween costumes. The FDA says it works with government agencies to seize non-approved costume contact lenses that are often illegally imported.
