NBA:

In the NBA, Brooklyn won against the Clippers in double overtime 127-122, Milwaukee beat Cleveland 118-101, New Orleans won against the Lakers 105-88, Orlando beat San Antonio 95-83, Utah blasted Houston 120-101, and it was Detroit over Charlotte 112-89.

Memphis star guard Mike Conley will miss at least six weeks because of broken bones in his lower back. The Grizzlies have announced that Conley was diagnosed with transverse fractures in the vertebrae. Conley will be re-evaluated in four weeks. Conley was hurt during Monday's loss to Charlotte after taking a charge from Michael Kidd-Gilchrist.

In other NBA news:

— Dirk Nowitzki will be out at least two more games with a right Achilles tendon injury that has contributed to the Dallas Mavericks superstar missing 11 of the first 16 games this season. Rookie Dorian Finney-Smith has been starting in Nowitzki's place for the 3-13 Mavs, who are off to their worst start since 1993-94.

NHL:

In the NHL, the Rangers beat Carolina 3-2, Buffalo edged Ottawa 5-4, Philadelphia beat Boston in a shootout 3-2, Winnipeg won against New Jersey 3-2, Chicago skated past Florida in a shootout 2-1, Toronto doubled up Edmonton 4-2, San Jose beat Arizona 2-1, Anaheim won against Montreal 2-1, Vancouver topped Minnesota 5-4, Nashville bested Colorado 5-3, Columbus won against Tampa Bay 5-1, and it was Detroit over Dallas 3-1.

NCAA:

In top 25 college basketball, No. 17 Wisconsin beat No. 22 Syracuse 77-60.

Kris Jenkins hit six 3s and scored 22 points and Josh Hart had 12 points and nine rebounds to lead No. 2 Villanova past Penn 82-57. Villanova, defending national champion, won its record 15th straight Big 5 game among its Philadelphia college rivals.

Oregon has fired coach Mark Helfrich after a disappointing 4-8 season even though he had a 37-16 record in four seasons. Helfrich led the Ducks to the first College Football Playoff championship game two years ago.

Khalid Hart hit two free throws and added a 3-point play that allowed Marist to close out University of Massachusetts-Lowell, 81-69 on Tuesday night. The Red Foxes built a 10-point lead at intermission and pushed it to a 14-point advantage early in the second half. But the River Hawks rallied, closing to within four twice midway through the game.

Tom Rivard scored 17 points and Colgate won its home opener with a 91-68 victory over Division III Union (N.Y.) on Tuesday night in the Holy City Hoops Classic. Rivard was 6 of 11 from the floor. Jordan Swopshire and Will Rayman added 15 points apiece for the Raiders (2-4), who bounced back from an 81-78 overtime loss at Columbia and snapped a three-game skid. Sean O'Brien chipped in 11 points. It was the first meeting between the schools since the 1982-83 season.

MLB:

The New York Mets are reportedly going to retain the services of Yoenis Cespedes after he tested the free agency market for the second straight year. A person familiar with the deal tells The Associated Press the outfielder has agreed to a $110 million, four-year contract to stay with the Mets.

The Chicago Cubs and outfielder Jon Jay have agreed to an $8 million, one-year contract, likely signaling the end of free agent Dexter Fowler's time with the World Series champions. Jay batted .291 with two homers and 26 RBIs in 90 games with San Diego last season.

Boston Cy Young Award winner Rick Porcello has won the AL Comeback Player of the Year award, while Washington third baseman Anthony Rendon has received the NL honor.  Porcello posted a major league best 22 wins this season, after going 9-15 in 2015. He finished with a 22-4 record and a 3.15 ERA over 33 starts to help the Red Sox capture the American League East title. Rendon hit .270 with 20 home runs and 85 RBIs in 156 games. He had a .348 on-base percentage and a .450 slugging percentage to help the Nationals win the NL East for the second time in three seasons. Rendon was limited to 80 games in 2015 because of injuries. The awards are voted on by the 30 team beat writers from MLB.com.

Soccer:

The Colombian soccer team that was scheduled to play the ill-fated Brazilian club in a South American championship says it's offering the title to the rivals whose plane has crashed. The Medellin-based team says it's asked the South American soccer confederation to award the title in honor of the Brazilian team that was aboard a plane that went down with the loss of 71 of the 77 people aboard. Three team members were among the six that survived. One of them, goalkeeper Jakson Follmann, had to have his right leg amputated as a result of injuries suffered in the crash.

Bruce Arena says the U.S. national team is behind the eight ball and fighting for its life as it tries to make the World Cup. Arena was hired last week to replace Jurgen Klinsmann as the U.S. coach after losses at home to Mexico and at Costa Rica in two qualifying games. Arena spoke to reporters yesterday.

NFL:

The NFL has suspended Buffalo Bills offensive tackle Seantrel Henderson for 10 games for what the player's agent tells The Associated Press stems from his client using marijuana to relieve the effects of Crohn's disease. The Bills announced the league notified them on Tuesday of Henderson's suspension for violating the league's substance abuse policy. It's Henderson's second suspension this year after he served a four-game ban to start the season.
