MLB-WORLD SERIES
Five home runs weren't enough for the Houston Astros to take a three-games-to-two lead in the World Series, but an RBI single did the trick.
Alex Bregman's two-out single in the bottom of the 10th scored pinch-runner Derek Fisher as the Astros outlasted the Dodgers 13-12. Losing pitcher Kenley Jansen was one out from retiring the Astros in the 10th until he hit Brian McCann with a pitch and walked Springer. Bregman put the finishing touches on a wild game in which the two teams combined for seven home runs, bringing their total to a World Series-record 22.
The Astros and Dodgers also combined to blow three leads of three runs or more. Jose Altuve and Yuli Gurriel each hit game-tying, three-run homers before George Springer and Carlos Correa connected in a four-run seventh that put the Astros ahead 11-8. A Brian McCann home run allowed Houston to carry a 12-9 lead into the ninth, but Yasiel Puig launched a two-run shot and Chris Taylor added a two-out, two-strike RBI single to force extra innings.
It was billed as a pitchers' duel, but neither Dallas Keuchel nor Clayton Kershaw lasted five innings. Keuchel was pulled in the fourth trailing 4-0 after yielding three earned runs and five hits. Kershaw was tagged for six runs over 4 2/3 innings.
Winning pitcher Joe Musgrove worked a scoreless 10th to help the Astros get within one victory of their first World Series title.
Game 6 is Tuesday in Los Angeles. Justin Verlander is expected to start for the Astros. The Dodgers haven't named their starter.

The Washington Nationals have found a manager
A person with knowledge of the deal says Dave Martinez has accepted a three-year contract plus an option to replace Dusty Baker. It's the first managerial job for Martinez, who had been working as Joe Maddon's bench coach with the Cubs after the two left the Rays together in 2014.
Baker was let go after leading the Nats to consecutive division titles without winning a playoff series in his two years with the team
MLB-ATHLETICS-MAXWELL ARRESTED
Oakland Athletics catcher Bruce Maxwell has been arrested after a female food delivery person alleged he pointed a gun at her.
Scottsdale police said officers went to Maxwell's home Saturday night after getting a call about a person with a gun. Maxwell was booked on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and disorderly conduct.
NFL-SCHEDULE
Ezekiel Elliott fumbled on his first carry Sunday, but he was outstanding the rest of the day.
The Cowboys are 4-3 after riding Elliot's 150 yards rushing and two touchdowns to a 33-19 win over the 3-4 Redskins. He carried the ball 33 times, scored twice for the second consecutive game and surpassed 100 yards for the third time in a row. This production comes with a possible six-game suspension looming over the reigning NFL rushing champ for domestic abuse.
One of Elliott's TDs came after Tyrone Crawford blocked Nick Rose's field goal attempt and Orlando Scandrick returned it 86 yards in the second period. Dallas also forced three turnovers and clinched the victory on Byron Jones' interception return for a touchdown with 21 seconds left.
Checking out the rest of the NFL finals:
— The Eagles improved to an NFL-best 7-1 and claimed their sixth consecutive win by trouncing the winless 49ers 33-10. Carson Wentz was 18 of 32 for 211 yards and two touchdowns, including a 53-yard scoring strike to Alshon Jeffrey. Wentz leads the NFL with 19 TD passes, most by an Eagles quarterback through eight games.
— The Seahawks won a shootout with the Texans as Russell Wilson hit Jimmy Graham for an 18-yard touchdown with 21 seconds left to push Seattle past Houston 41-38. Down 38-34 with 1:39 left and out of timeouts, Wilson took Seattle 80 yards and found Graham for their second TD connection of the final period. Wilson finished 26 of 41 for a career-high 452 yards and four TDs for the 5-2 Seahawks. The Texans dipped to 3-4 despite rookie DeShaun Watson, who passed for 402 yards and four scores.
— Tom Brady passed for 333 yards and a touchdown in the Patriots' 21-13 victory over the Chargers. Stephen Gostkowski added four field goals as New England picked up its fourth consecutive win to move to 6-2. Chargers running back Melvin Gordon opened the scoring with an 87-yard touchdown run, but he was also tackled in the end zone following a muffed punt as Los Angeles dropped to 3-5.
— LeSean McCoy had a season-best 151 yards rushing and also scored on a 48-yard run in the Bills' 34-14 rout of the Raiders. Rookie linebacker Matt Milano scored on a 40-yard fumble return, one of four turnovers by Oakland. Tyrod Taylor threw a 6-yard touchdown pass to Andre Holmes and scored on a 1-yard run to help the 5-2 Bills send the 3-5 Raiders to their fifth loss in six games.
— Pittsburgh's defense was stellar in a 20-15 win at Detroit, stopping the Lions twice on downs deep in Steelers territory. JuJu Smith-Schuster scored on a 97-yard touchdown pass from Ben Roethlisberger late in the third quarter to help the 6-2 Steelers pick up their third consecutive win. The Lions never got into the end zone, settling for five Matt Prater field goals in falling to 3-4.
— The Saints won their fifth in a row since an 0-2 start as Mark Ingram and Alvin Kamara each ran for touchdowns in a 20-12 victory against the Bears. Drew Brees completed 23 of 28 passes for 299 yards for the Saints, who kept Chicago out of the end zone until late in the game. The Bears had a chance to tie until New Orleans rookie cornerback Marshon Lattimore picked off Mitchel Trubisky on the Bears' final drive, leaving Chicago 3-5.
— The 4-3 Falcons ended a three-game losing streak as Matt Ryan passed for 254 yards and two touchdowns in a 25-20 comeback win over the Jets. Austin Hooper and Mohamed Sanu each caught touchdown passes from Ryan, who finished 18 of 29 for 254 yards. Josh McCown was 26 of 33 for 257 yards with touchdown passes to Robby Anderson and Eric Tomlinson, but the 3-5 Jets lost their third in a row by blowing a second-half lead for the third straight week.
— Case Keenum threw for two touchdowns and Kai Forbath made four field goals in the Vikings' 33-16 win over the Browns in London. Adam Thielen grabbed five passes for 98 yards and a touchdown for the 6-2 Vikings, who trailed 13-12 at halftime before dropping Cleveland to 0-8. Browns quarterback DeShone Kizer had a one-yard scoring run and didn't throw an interception for the first time this season.
— Lineman Carlos Dunlap returned an interception 16 yards for a TD with 6:58 left before the extra point gave the Bengals a 24-23 win over the Colts. Andy Dalton was 17 of 29 for 243 yards with a pair of touchdowns in a game that featured four lead changes before Cincinnati improved to 3-4 and dropped Indianapolis to 2-6. Colts tight end Jack Doyle had 12 catches for 121 yards, including a 13-yard touchdown.
— The Panthers' defense forced three turnovers and didn't allow a touchdown in a 17-3 win at Tampa Bay. Cam Newton threw for 154 yards, including a 25-yard TD to Kelvin Benjamin with 8:48 remaining. Luke Kuechly had an interception in his return from a concussion, and Julius Peppers moved into a tie for fifth on the all-time sacks list. The 5-3 Panthers ended a two-game skid, while Tampa Bay fell to 2-5 with its fourth straight loss.
NFL-SOCIAL JUSTICE
Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins says the next proposed meeting between NFL owners and players to discuss social justice initiatives has been canceled.
As one of the founders of The Players Coalition, Jenkins says the league didn't accept the coalition's invitation, citing scheduling issues.
The league and players met earlier this month in New York to discuss player demonstrations during the national anthem and other issues.
Meanwhile, a majority of the Texans' roster kneeled during the national anthem before Sunday's game at Seattle. They were protesting owners Bob McNair's "inmates running the prison" comment that emerged last week. Only 10 of Houston's active players stood for the anthem.
NBA-SCHEDULE
The Indiana Pacers picked up a rare win over the San Antonio Spurs by rallying from a nine-point deficit in the final seven minutes.
Victor Oladipo nailed a 3-pointer with 10.3 seconds left to send the Pacers to just the third win in their last 20 meetings with the Spurs, 97-94 at Indianapolis.
The Spurs strung together an 18-5 run that put them ahead 82-73 with 6:43 remaining before Indiana scored 24 points the rest of the way.
Oladipo finished with 23 points and five assists, while Domantas Sabonis added career highs of 22 points and 12 rebounds.
LaMarcus Aldridge finished with 26 points and eight rebounds to lead San Antonio, which has dropped two straight since a 4-0 start.
In other NBA action:
— Avery Bradley pumped in 23 points as Detroit dealt the Warriors their second home loss of the season, 115-107. Reggie Jackson scored 18 of his 22 points in the first half for the Pistons, who clinched the win on a 3-pointer by Tobias Harris with 1:27 remaining.
— The Cavaliers' early-season slump continued as Tim Hardaway Jr. poured in 34 points and Kristaps Porzingis added 32 in the Knicks' 114-95 win at Cleveland. Kevin Love had a team-high 22 points for the Cavs, who are under .500 following their fourth loss in five games.
— Giannis Antetokounmpo scored 33 points and Khris Middleton had 27 in the Bucks' 117-106 victory in Atlanta. Antetokounmpo shot 14 for 21 and finished with 11 rebounds and five assists in Milwaukee's third win in four games.
— John Wall scored 11 of his 19 points in the first quarter and finished with nine assists as the Wizards blew out the Kings 110-83. Otto Porter Jr. had 16 points for Washington, which led 63-62 at halftime and was up by as many as 36 early in the third quarter.
— The Hornets were 120-113 winners against the Magic behind Kemba Walker's 34 points and 10 assists. Dwight Howard had a season-high 22 points against his former team as Charlotte ended Orlando's three-game win streak.
— Jamal Murray scored 26 points and Nikola Jokic had 21 and 14 rebounds to lead the Nuggets past the Nets 124-111. Wilson Chandler added 18 points in Denver's second consecutive win.
NBA-WIZARDS/WARRIORS PENALTIES
The NBA suspended Washington Wizards guard Carrick Felix and forward Markieff Morris for Sunday's game at Sacramento. The two were punished for leaving the bench area during Friday's fight with the Warriors in Oakland.
The league also doled out a total of $90,000 in fines to Bradley Beal, Draymond Green and Kelly Oubre. Beal was fined $50,000 and Green was hit with a $25,000 for fighting.
NHL-SCHEDULE
The Winnipeg Jets had never scored five times in a first period before achieving the feat Sunday against the two-time defending Stanley Cup champions.
Blake Wheeler notched a hat trick to lead the Jets' first-period assault in a 7-1 rout of the Penguins. Wheeler scored his second and third goals while Winnipeg was netting three in a 34 second span late in the period.
Wheeler also had an assist to finish with four points.
Connor Hellebuyck stopped 31 shots and blanked the Penguins until Evgeni Malkin beat him late in the second period.
Elsewhere on NHL ice:
— Sean Monahan provided the tiebreaking goal midway through the third period to lift the Flames over the Capitals 2-1. Johnny Gaudreau had two assists and Mike Smith turned back 30 shots to help Calgary win for just the second time in six home games.
— Jakob Silfverberg tied it with just under five minutes left in regulation and Corey Perry provided the lone shootout goal as the Ducks beat the Hurricanes 4-3. Anaheim netminder Ryan Miller finished with 34 saves, including three point-blank stops in overtime.
NASCAR-MARTINSVILLE
Kyle Busch is the first driver into NASCAR's championship race after using an overtime pass of teammate Denny Hamlin to win at Martinsville Speedway.
Hamlin and Chase Elliott had a heated conversation after the checkered flag because Hamlin wrecked Elliott out of the lead to send the race into overtime. Hamlin restarted as the leader, but Joe Gibbs Racing teammate Busch ran inside of him to snatch the lead away.
Martin Truex Jr. went with Busch, and Hamlin faded all the way to seventh.
T25-COLLEGE FOOTBALL POLL
The SEC now boasts the top two teams in the AP college football poll after Georgia climbed one spot to No. 2.
Top-ranked Alabama picked up 59 of 61 first-place votes, but the Bulldogs received two first-place selections after the Crimson Tide had been the unanimous No. 1 selection the previous two weeks.
The Tide are the only top-10 team to retain the same position it held last week. Ohio State climbed to third, followed by Wisconsin, Notre Dame, Clemson, Penn State, Oklahoma, Miami and TCU. The Nittany Lions dropped five spots with Saturday's loss to the Buckeyes, and the Horned Frogs sank five notches by losing to Iowa State.
The Cyclones jumped from 25th to 14th.
COLLEGE FOOTBALL-FLORIDA-McELWAIN
— A person familiar with the situation tells The Associated Press that Florida is parting ways with football coach Jim McElwain following three consecutive losses. The person said the two sides are negotiating McElwain's $12.5 million buyout, less than a week after he said his players and their families had received death threats. McElwain went 22-12 with the Gators, including 4-9 against ranked teams.
PGA-SANDERSON FARMS
Ryan Armour has earned his first victory in 105 PGA starts by taking the Sanderson Farms Championship by five strokes over Chesson Hadley.
Armour closed with a 4-under 68 for a 19-under total after beginning the final round with a five-shot advantage.
Jonathan Randolph cut into Armour's lead with seven birdies on his first nine holes before finishing third at minus-12.
PGA TOUR CHAMPIONS
Langer goes back-to-back
Bernhard Langer sank a 30-foot birdie putt on the second playoff hole to beat Miguel Angel Jimenez in the PowerShares QQQ Championship.
Langer and Jimenez both shot 5-under 67 in the final round to force the playoff at 11-under.
It was Langer's second victory in two events of the Charles Schwab Cup playoffs. He is followed in the standings by Scott McCarron, Kenny Perry, Jimenez and Kevin Sutherland.
GOLF-LPGA TOUR
Kerr wins
Cristie Kerr holed a 35-foot birdie putt on the final hole for an even-par 71 and a one-shot victory in the LPGA event in Malaysia.
Kerr was in a four-way tie for the lead until her big putt made her the 27th player in tour history with 20 victories. Danielle Kang, Shanshan Feng and Jacqui Concolino tied for second.
