Dodger Stadium will be hosting Game 7 of a World Series for the first time in its storied history.
The Los Angeles Dodgers have stretched the Fall Classic to the limit by rallying for a 3-1 win over the Houston Astros. The Dodgers were baffled by Justin Verlander over the first five innings before surging ahead in the sixth and smacking the 24th home run of the series.
Chris Taylor tied the game with an RBI double and Corey Seager immediately followed with a sacrifice fly that put the Dodgers ahead to stay later in the sixth. Joc Pederson padded the Dodgers' lead with a solo blast off Joe Musgrove in the seventh.
Verlander starter struck out eight while allowing just one hit through five frames. The Dodgers' fortunes began to turn when Austin Barnes led off the sixth with a single and Chase Utley was hit by a pitch before Taylor's two-bagger knotted the score.
Astros outfielder George Springer hit a third-inning homer off Dodgers starter Rich Hill, who was lifted after allowing four hits while striking out five over 4 2/3 innings. It was Springer's fourth home run of the Fall Classic.
The Dodgers' much-maligned bullpen allowed just two hits while tossing shutout ball over 4 1/3 innings. Tony Watson retired one batter in the sixth inning to pick up the victory. Kenley Jansen retired all six batters he faced to pick of the save, one game after taking the loss in the Astros' 13-12, 10-inning victory.
It was the first loss for Verlander since joining the Astros from the Tigers on Aug. 31.
Yu Darvish will start for the Dodgers against Lance McCullers in Game 7 Wednesday. Darvish couldn't get out of the second inning of Game 3, while McCullers was reached for three runs over 5 1/3 innings to get the victory in the Astros' 5-3 victory.
The Astros have never won a World Series since entering the majors in 1962. The Dodgers are seeking their seventh championship and first in 29 years.
COLLEGE FOOTBALL-CFP Rankings
Georgia is No. 2 in The Associated Press college football poll, but No. 1 in the College Football Playoff rankings.
The Bulldogs claimed the top spot in the first CFP rankings of the season after improving to 8-0. Georgia's one close game was at Notre Dame in September, a 20-19 victory.
Unbeaten Alabama is second, followed by Notre Dame and Clemson. The Crimson Tide have scored over 40 points in six of their eight games. The Irish have put together blowout wins over Michigan State, Southern California and North Carolina State since their loss to Georgia. The Tigers are 7-1 and opened their season with six straight wins before a 27-24 loss at Syracuse on Oct. 13.
Oklahoma and Ohio State were the next two in the selection committee's initial top 25.
COLLEGE FOOTBALL-AUBURN-PETTWAY
Auburn tailback Kamryn Pettway is out indefinitely with a fractured shoulder bone sustained in the Tigers' win against Arkansas Oct. 14. Coach Gus Malzahn says Pettway was diagnosed last Friday during the open week with a fractured scapula. Pettway has run for 305 yards and six touchdowns.
NFL-COWBOY-ELLIOTT
The union for NFL players has turned to a federal appeals court in its quest to let Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott play this Sunday.
Union lawyers say Elliott's six-game suspension over domestic violence allegations should be delayed until the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals considers the issue. League lawyers did not immediately comment.
The NFL Players Association asked federal Judge Katherine Polk Failla on Tuesday to suspend her Monday ruling during an appeal. But she refused, so the file was moved to the Manhattan-based appeals court.
The 22-year-old Elliott was suspended in August after he had several physical confrontations in the summer of 2016 with his then-girlfriend.

— The NFL says Dolphins linebacker Kiko Alonso won't be suspended for his hit that sidelined Baltimore Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco with a concussion. Alonso received a penalty for unnecessary roughness and said the high hit was unintentional, but angry Ravens players said he should have been ejected for a dirty play.
— Bears coach John Fox says tight end Zach Miller is "progressing well" following surgery to save his left leg. Miller remains hospitalized in New Orleans after tearing an artery while dislocating his knee trying to make a touchdown catch in Sunday's loss to the Saints.
— The NFL-leading Eagles have bolstered their offense by acquiring running back Jay Ajayi from the Dolphins for a fourth-round pick in 2018. Ajayi has 465 yards rushing and is averaging 3.4 yards per carry after running for 1,272 yards last season, including three 200-yard games.
— The Bills have upgraded their receiving group by acquiring Kelvin Benjamin from the Panthers for their third- and seventh-round picks in next year's draft. Benjamin immediately becomes the Bills leading receiver with 32 catches for 475 yards and two touchdowns this season.
— Broncos coach Vance Joseph is contemplating a change at quarterback but wants to wait until Wednesday to make anything official. Trevor Siemian was picked off three times in Monday's 29-19 loss to the Chiefs, leaving Denver 3-4. Joseph said Tuesday that should he make a move, it would be to Brock Osweiler, not Paxton Lynch.
— Jets wide receiver Jeremy Kerley is facing a possible suspension, and is uncertain whether he'll be available to play Thursday night against the Bills. Kerley would not confirm or deny reports Tuesday that he will be suspended by the NFL for a violation of league rules.
— Giants cornerback Janoris Jenkins has been suspended indefinitely by the team for a violation of team rules. Jenkins wasn't with the team when the Giants returned to practice Monday after their bye week. Coach Ben McAdoo said he had been excused for personal reasons but was expected back Monday.
NBA-SCHEDULE
Sacramento Kings fans could be settling in for another long season.
The Kings are 1-6 after falling behind 55-30 by halftime of a 101-83 loss at Indiana. Sacramento shot just 2-for-14 from 3-point range and was outrebounded 53-46.
Second-year forward Domantas Sabonis had a career-high 16 boards to go with 12 points and five assists for the Pacers. Sabonis had 10 points and 12 rebounds by halftime, one game after scoring a career-high 22 on Sunday.
One bright spot for the Kings was rookie De'Aaron Fox, who had 18 points off the bench in leading Sacramento scorers for the third time in seven games.
In other NBA action:
— Paul George scored 20 points and Russell Westbrook fell one assist short of a triple-double as the Thunder routed the Bucks 110-91 in Milwaukee. Westbrook had 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Thunder, who were never threatened after scoring 16 straight points in the first quarter. Steven Adams chipped in 14 points and 11 boards, while Jerami Grant added 17 points off the bench for OKC.
— Julius Randle led seven Lakers in double-figures with 17 points in a 113-93 rout of Detroit. Larry Nance Jr. delivered 14 points and a team-high 12 rebounds as Los Angeles ended Detroit's three-game winning streak. Reggie Jackson and Tobias Harris each had 18 points for the Pistons, who went to the line just three times and were outrebounded 53-44.
— The Suns wasted an 18-point lead in the third quarter before T.J. Warren scored 14 of his 20 points in the final period to push Phoenix past the Nets, 122-114. Devin Booker scored 32 points and Mike James added 24 as the Suns improved to 3-1 under interim coach Jay Triano. D'Angelo Russell scored 33 points for the Nets, who've lost three straight after beating the Cavaliers last Wednesday.

Cavaliers backup guard Iman Shumpert could miss another week with a sore right knee that has already kept him out of two games.
The team says tests didn't reveal any structural damage, and he will be out five to seven days while undergoing treatment and rehab.
Shumpert is averaging 6.0 points and 2.8 rebounds for the Cavs, who are just 3-4 and take a three-game losing streak into Wednesday's game against the Indiana Pacers.
Also in the NBA:
— Jazz forward Joe Johnson will miss at least two weeks with a right wrist injury that occurred during Monday's win against the Mavericks. Johnson averaged 6.3 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.6 assists in the first seven games.
— The Grizzlies have exercised the fourth-year contract option on Jarell Martin. The forward has started six of seven games, and he is averaging a career-high 7.1 points, 4.6 rebounds and 23.9 minutes.
NHL-SCHEDULE
The Vegas Golden Knights have opened a six-game road trip with back-to-back losses in New York.
The Rangers scored four times in the third period to turn a 4-2 deficit into a 6-4 win over the Knights. Mika Zibanejad was the catalyst in the comeback, setting up back-to-back goals before scoring the tiebreaker on a power play with 5:49 remaining.
Mats Zuccarello and Pavel Buchnevich each had a goal and an assist for the Rangers, who have won three of five since a 1-5-2 start.
Reilly Smith scored twice for the expansion Knights.
Elsewhere on NHL ice:
— Gustav Nyquist and Luke Glendining scored 68 seconds apart to give the Red Wings a 2-0 lead just 2:37 into a 5-3 win over the Coyotes. Jason Demers and Dylan Larkin added second-period goals before Darren Helm scored an empty-netter that secured Detroit's second straight win since a six-game skid. Scott Wedgewood stopped 35 shots for the Coyotes, one night after making 28 saves in Arizona's only victory of the season.
— The Jets are 6-1-1 in their last eight games after Connor Hellebuyck made 28 saves in a 2-1 decision over the Wild. Nikolaj Ehlers and Kyle Connor did the scoring for Winnipeg. Minnesota couldn't get the equalizer after rookie Luke Kunin scored 5:36 into the third period.
