New York Congresswoman Elise Stefanik is reintroducing legislation to designate the Plattsburgh International Airport a Port of Entry.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection announced this week that 38 Ports of Entry along the border with Canada will adjust their hours in January. Officials in New York state are not pleased about the reductions at a time when illegal crossings are increasing.

Plattsburgh officials are optimistic that an effort to obtain a Port of Entry status for the local airport could happen by the end of the year now that Congress has taken initial action.
