VILLAGE OF FLORIDA – It took firefighters from 18 departments two days to bring a 50-acre mountaintop brush fire under control in the Village of Florida this weekend.
The fire on top of Mt. Eve broke out Saturday afternoon. Firefighters worked until dark and resumed Sunday morning. "They were finally successful, for the most part," said Florida Fire Chief Joseph Bankston.
“It was knocked down very well," Bankston said Sunday evening. "We created some fire lines.”
How much brush was still burning was unknown, but was turned over to state forest rangers.
