A former New York City neighbor of the dead suspect in the Washington Navy Yard shootings says she remembers him as a typical teenager.
Wendy Lopez says she knew Aaron Alexis in the Flushing neighborhood of Queens almost 10 years ago. She told WABC-TV on Monday that Alexis did nothing that made him stand out. She says he was "not disrespectful" and didn't hang out "making noise."
Alexis' relatives live in the Bedford-Stuyvesant section of Brooklyn. Brother-in-law Anthony Little never met Alexis but tells NBC 4 New York "nobody expected this."
Little says "no one mentioned anything about him being aggressive" and from what he knew "he was a regular guy."
Authorities say Alexis went on a shooting rampage inside a building at the heavily secured Navy Yard. They say he and 12 other people were killed.
