Former New York state Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver’s 2015 corruption conviction has been overturned by a federal appeals court. The New York Times reports the appellate court cited the 2016 U.S. Supreme Court ruling on former Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell’s corruption case. The paper reports the jury in Silver’s case got erroneous jury instructions from the judge. Prosecutors could retry the one-time powerful Democrat.
