A private plane that crashed in upstate New York over the weekend was carrying six members of a close-knit family of physicians and distinguished student-athletes. The twin-engine plane went down Saturday into a muddy field in Copake, New York, near the Massachusetts line. Authorities and family members say all six people aboard were killed. They say the victims include former MIT soccer player Karenna Groff, who was named the 2022 NCAA woman of the year, her boyfriend and Groff's parents and others. Officials say the plane crashed south of its intended destination as they headed to the Catskills region of upstate New York.

The U.S. attorney’s Office says a Massachusetts state lawmaker has been arrested and charged with defrauding a trade association and falsifying records to cover up the scheme. Thirty-seven-year-old Christopher Flanagan, of Dennis, Massachusetts, was indicted Friday on five counts of wire fraud and one count of falsification of records.
