Inspired by John Irving, ESPN's Mike Greenberg turns from sports to fiction

Surrounded by male voices day in and day out on his hugely popular morning ESPN radio show “Mike and Mike in the Morning,” longtime sports anchor Mike Greenberg is perhaps the last person you would expect to write a 21st century epistolary novel centering on three women in various states of crisis — and that’s before things get really serious.

For Greenberg, the novel was a deeply personal project, confronting breast cancer in the aftermath of a close friend’s 2009 death. But All You Could Ask For, out now from William Morrow, a HarperCollins imprint, is also wickedly funny, upending many of our modern American notions of social mobility, love, and happiness.

Greenberg, also seen as a SportsCenter anchor, has spent more than a decade alongside co-host Mike Golic, but today he’s playing hooky with us.
